in under eight hours my surgery begins. I should be able to sleep after a 12 hour shift but to much going thru my head.
I was one of those unlucky teenagers who wore a Milwaukee brace for 5 years..8 thru 12 grade. It was a very traumatic experience for a girl to have to wear that everyday. Many stares, teasing, and mean comments from other kids. Never thought any boys would like the girl with the brace. I was lucky that a couple good guys looked past the brace to the person. Wearing the brace gave me a poor self image of my body that has stuck with me thru adulthood. That is probably the issue that I have had the hardest time to deal with. Even at 5' 7" and 100 pounds I hated my torso. I always saw the crooked spine. The years of back pain didn't help. Well tomorrow that all changes. I will be having the surgery that I wanted when I was 13. My increasing curve leaves me little choice. It will continue to progress and eventually be crippling. I know it will be a long recovery with many painful days but I pray it will all be worth it.
